Matthew Williams: 2016/2017 Biography & Statistics

Midfielder Matthew Williams joined TNS from Rhyl as a striker, following the Lilywhites' relegation from the Welsh Premier League. He made his Saints debut in their 1-0 defeat against Bohemians in the Champions League. He missed the majority of the 2011/12 season with a medial knee ligament injury, which was sustained in mid-December.

He joined the Lilywhites squad for 2008/09 when he joined on 22nd July 2008 from Burton Albion. Unfortunately for the Lilywhites, he missed the start of the season through injury. Williams, who hails from Denbigh, and is a former Wales Under-21 international, who joined Manchester United as a 16-year-old and spent five years at Old Trafford, establishing himself as a key player in the Reserves, although he never quite broke into the First Team for the Red Devils. From 2004-2006 he played for League Two club Notts County before switching to Conference club Tamworth. Last season he was loaned out to Nigel Clough's Burton Albion, who lost out narrowly in the Conference National end of season play-offs in May. The forward won nine Caps for the Under 21 side, whilst with Man. Utd. from 2000/01 season, making his debut against Poland as a substitute and then shortly afterwards against Ukraine (Sub). He missed the following season through injury, but returned in 2002/03 to face Finland, Italy and Azerbaijan (Sub). In 2004/05, he played against Serbia and Montenegro (Sub), Italy (Sub), Finland and again against Serbia and Montenegro.
