Matty Cook: 2016/2017 Biography & Statistics

Cook joined Cefn Druids from Newtown in June 2016 after five seasons with the Robins, which included captaining the Powys-club in the Welsh Cup Final and leading the side into Europe. After a short spell with the Druids, which saw him captain the side, Cook left the Welsh Premier League to sign for Denbigh Town.

The midfielder had joined Newtown in January 2011 after two and a half years at Airbus UK, in a deal that saw Gavin Cadwallader move to the Airfield. He joined Airbus UK Broughton on the September Transfer Deadline Day in 2008 from Cefn Druids after battling back from a career threatening injury over the previous two seasons.

He made just two appearances in the 2008/09 Season for the Druids, before his short move to the Airfield. Crewe-born Matthew lives in Wrexham and was released by Chester City after having been at Leigh RMI. He was snapped up by the Druids in June 2005. He has excellent distribution skills and an eye for goal. He was capped for Wales at under-19 level.

He was dealt a major set back in September 2006 when he suffered a double leg fracture, breaking both his Tibia and Fibia in the FAW Premier Cup against Welshpool. He was initially ruled out for nine months, meaning a very premature end to the 2006/07 season, but worse was to come when he was told that he would need another operation in September 2007, meaning that he would miss the entire 2007/08 season as well. He fought back well to reignite his Welsh Premier League career.
