Ross Stephens left Newtown at the end of the 2016/17 season, having scored once in 19 appearances, with the goal coming at Airbus in the 7-0 win, a goal that was nominated for goal of the month.
Stephens is a well-traveled midfielder who joined Aberystwyth from Prestatyn Town in January 2015.
He had left Newtown to join Prestatyn in June 2010, making the Seasiders his sixth Welsh Premier League club at the age of 25. He joined Newtown in the summer of 2009 from mid-Wales rivals Aberystwyth Town. The Robins became the midfielder's fifith Welsh Premier League club, at the age of 24. He made just 13 (+3) appearances for the Seasiders, but was cup-tied for their Welsh Cup run, which affected his chances at Park Avenue.Stephens had only joined Aberystwyth Town in January 2009 after a successful spell at Welshpool. The left-sided player is a former Wales Under 23 Semi Pro International.
Stephens joined Welshpool on 21st June 2007 after playing 14 matches and scoring 1 goal for Rhyl. He became John Hulse's first signing of 2007 when he joined the Lilywhites from Caersws on Thursday 4th January. In a surprise move, Stephens was signed after a number of excellent performances for the Bluebirds and the financial offer from the Lilywhites was apparently too good for the midfielder to refuse or for the Mid Wales village club to match. Unfortunately, he scored an own-goal on his debut in the Lilywhites defeat at Port Talbot.
Welshman Ross, signed permanently for Micky Evans' Caersws in June 2005, after a loan spell at the Recreation Ground in 2003. The Llanidloes-born player was released by Shrewsbury at the end of the 2004/05 season after a loan period at Redditch United.
He is a talented player with excellent passing and dribbling ability and also has a strong eye for the goal. He scored eleven goals in thirty appearances in 2005/06 season and then notched nine goals in 24 games in the 2006/07 season for the Bluebirds.
