Chris Hughes: 2017/2018 Biography & Statistics

Newtown Football Club announced the appointment of their new Head Coach, Chris Hughes on Sunday 3rd February 2013.

Chris, 34, was in his fourth season as Assistant Manager at Prestatyn Town FC, having previously been involved as Assistant Manager at Buckley, Rhyl and Caersws. His playing career was with Buckley Town in the Cymru Alliance as a midfielder/striker.

Currently employed as a Sports Development Officer with Wrexham Borough Council, Chris has also worked with the Welsh Football Trust in the past.

During his time at Prestatyn he is proud of their achievements in getting into the play-off finals for a European place before winning the Welsh Cup against Bangor last season, earning them a Europa cup place where they won their first round, earning the club a bumper pay day.

Speaking after he was formally appointed, Chris said he was sad to be leaving Prestatyn where he has been warmly welcomed by the staff, players and spectators and is proud of his achievements there.

Holding an 'A' licence, Chris has applied for the Pro-Licence course due to start in March 2014.

"It was too good an opportunity to miss; I know the players and what Bernie McNally has achieved on a low budget is remarkable and I am determined to keep their fine form going.

Chris said, 'I wanted the opportunity to be Number One at a (Corbett Sports) Welsh Premier Club and to test myself with a stable club, which Newtown is renowned to be.' Asked how he felt about coming to Newtown, Chris said, ' It was too good an opportunity to miss; I know the players and what Bernie McNally has achieved on a low budget is remarkable and I am determined to keep their fine form going.'
