JD Welsh Premier League – Season Launch 2017/18

In the presence of members of the twelve participating clubs, Osian Roberts and Owain Tudur Jones, the new JD Welsh Premier League was officially launched on the National Eisteddfod field in Bodedern, on Wednesday August 9th.

After a quarter of century of continued growth, Wales Assistant Manager Osian Roberts is really looking forward to the 26th season of competition in our National League. The local Anglesey boy is also hoping that The New Saints’ six-year dominance can be seriously challenged this season:

‘The New Saints must be commended and complimented for raising the bar year on year but if some of the other clubs fulfil their potential during the coming season – it could be a very interesting campaign.'

S4C’s will once again show a minimum of 29 live domestic matches during the 2017/18 season. In addition, a number of matches will be streamed on the channel’s digital platforms on Thursday nights. Former WPL star and current pundit Owain Tudur Jones is excited by the prospect of the new campaign:

‘There’s no doubt that the standards in the WPL are improving every year and the league is now considered by many talented players as a good place to be. The geographical balance of the WPL is healthier again this year – so try to go to a game if you can. If you can’t – watch Sgorio of course!’

It was confirmed at the official launch that JD Sports will be headline sponsors of the JD Welsh Premier League for the next three seasons.
Stephen White, JD Group Marketing Director, said:

‘This has been a great few years for Welsh football. JD has been a supporter of the national team for several years now, and as they continue to have success on the field, we are delighted to be continuing our support for the domestic game in Wales off the field.’

The new JD WPL season will kick-off on Friday August 11th and S4C’s first live game of the new campaign will feature Barry Town United’s return to the top flight as they host Aberystwyth Town at 5.15pm on Sunday August 13th.

Yng nghwmni cynrychiolwyr o’r 12 clwb, Osian Roberts ac Owain Tudur Jones – lansiwyd y tymor newydd ar faes Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Ynys Môn ddydd Mercher y 9fed o Awst 2017.

Wedi chwarter canrif o fodolaeth mae Îs-reolwr tîm cenedlaethol Cymru Osian Roberts yn edrych ymlaen at weld nifer o glybiau yn ceisio herio’r Seintiau Newydd am eu coron wedi chwe blynedd o oruchafiaeth:

‘Mae’n rhaid canmol Y Seintiau am osod a chodi safon ein Cynghrair Cenedlaethol yn ystod y blynyddoedd diwethaf. Y gobaith yw y bydd clybiau eraill yn gwireddu eu potensial y tymor yma gan gynnig brwydr go iawn y Bencampwriaeth’.

Unwaith eto bydd isafswm o 29 o gemau domestig yn cael eu dangos yn fyw ar S4C yn ystod y tymor a bydd nifer o gemau ychwanegol yn cael eu ffrydio ar nosweithiau Iau. Mae cyn seren Uwch Gynghrair Cymru, Owain Tudur Jones yn edrych ymlaen at weithio ar y gemau i Sgorio yn ystod yr ymgyrch newydd hon:

‘Does dim amheuaeth bod safon y Cynghrair yn gwella bob blwyddyn ac mae chwaraewyr bellach yn gweld UGC fel lle da i gael eu gweld. Mae timau bellach ym mhob rhan o’r wlad – ond os na allwch fynd i gêm – cofiwch wylio Sgorio wrth gwrs’.

Cadarnhawyd yn y lansiad mai cwmni JD Sports fydd prif noddwyr yr Uwch Gynghrair am y tair blynedd nesaf gan gadarnhau eu hymrwymiad i’r gamp yng Nghymru:

Dywedodd Stephen White, Cyfarwyddwr Marchnata Grp JD:

‘Mae JD wedi cefnogi’r tîm cenedlaethol ers sawl tymor bellach yn ystod cyfnod llwyddiannus iawn. Tra’r ydym yn gobeithio y bydd y llwyddiant hwnnw’n parhau, ‘rydym yn hynod falch o allu parhau a chynyddu ein buddsoddiad a’n hymrwymiad i bêl-droed domestig yma yng Nghymru hefyd’.

Bydd y tymor newydd yn dechrau nos Wener yr 11eg o Awst 2017 a bydd Sgorio’n dangos Y Barri v Aberystwyth yn fyw ddydd Sul Awst 13eg am 5.15pm.
