Bala Town 1-1 Connah's Quay Nomads
Bala Scorer: Chris Venables 86' (PEN)
Nomads Scorer: Michael Wilde 37'
In a tight battle at Maes Tegid this evening, a late Chris Venables penalty secured Bala a point against Connah's Quay Nomads.
Nomads started the game brightly, but the home side had the opening chance, Mike Hayes firing just wide on 3'. Moments later Nathan Woolfe went close for Nomads with a header, and the visitors began to find a rhythm that allowed them to control the early stages, even if Ashely Morris wasn't called upon too much in the Bala goal.
Jordan Evans tried his luck from distance a few times tonight, first on 23' when he fired wide. Venables had the next chance, his 25 yard free-kick hit straight at Danby.
From that the visitors began to have another spell of pressure, and this time they capitalised, Callum Morris finding space in behind the Bala back line to float a teasing cross to the back post, which Michael Wilde headed home. Nomads ended the half the stronger of the two sides, almost doubling the lead when Morris dropped a cross, only for his defence to scramble clear.
Bala came out after the restart with real intent, Evans forcing Danby into a good save on 47' before firing over two minutes later. A goalmouth scramble on 59' saw Danby called into action again, and it looked like the Lakesiders would find no reward for their second half efforts.
That changed five minutes from time, when a foul in the box led to a Bala penalty, which Venables coolly dispatched to ensure both sides left this one with a point, one which sends Bala into fifth, but sends Nomads top of the league for tonight at least.
