"TNS are the Celtic of the Welsh Premier League"

Former Wales international footballer Owain Tudur Jones has likened The New Saints' recent unrivalled success in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League to Celtic's dominance in Scotland.

So far this season, the reigning Welsh champions have broken a 44-year world record held by Ajax for the most consecutive wins after winning 27 games in a row. And having won the Nathaniel MG League Cup last month, the Saints remain on course for an unprecedented quadruple.

After being entered into the Irn Bru Cup alongside fellow Welsh side Bala Town and Northern Irish Premiership clubs Crusaders and Linfield earlier this season, the Saints are the only non-Scottish club who have lined up for this year's semi-finals.

They travel to Paisley to face Scottish Championship side St Mirren on Sunday, 19 February, in a match which will be live on S4C's Sgorio with English commentary available. Former Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Hibernian and Falkirk midfielder, Owain Tudur Jones, is part of the Sgorio team for the match.

Tudur Jones, who won seven Wales caps during his career, says, "The New Saints stand head and shoulders above everyone else in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League. This season the gap is huge. We have to appreciate the run they've been on, they've made history, but if it happened every year, it would get tedious.

"Wales isn't the only country where this happens, it's exactly the same in Scotland with Celtic; they've won the SPL five times in a row. TNS are like the Celtic of the Welsh Premier League, and have been for some time."

The Saints' trip north of the border will be their third of the season so far, after they earned a 3-1 win over League Two frontrunners Forfar Athletic in Round Four and an eye-catching 3-0 quarter final victory at the home of League One leaders, Livingston. The winner of the semi-final will line up against either Queen of the South or Dundee United in the final at the end of March.

"By beating Livingston, they've shown that they're comfortable against teams at this level,"
adds Tudur Jones.

"I think the Scottish clubs know now that they must respect The New Saints. There's no doubt that TNS can beat a St Mirren side that's endued a tough league season and go on to win the competition."

"Y Seintiau Newydd yw Celtic Uwch Gynghrair Cymru" – Owain Tudur Jones

Yn dominyddu Uwch Gynghrair Cymru Dafabet, mae'r Seintiau Newydd yn efelychu llwyddiant cewri'r Alban, Celtic, yn ôl cyn chwaraewr pêl-droed Cymru, Owain Tudur Jones.

Yn gynharach y tymor yma, fe dorrodd pencampwyr Cymru record y byd a ddaliwyd gan Ajax am 44 o flynyddoedd am y nifer o fuddugoliaethau yn olynol, ar ôl rhediad di-dor o 27 buddugoliaeth. Ac ar ôl iddyn nhw ennill Cwpan Cynghrair Nathaniel MG ym mis Ionawr, mae gobeithion y tîm llawn amser o ennill pedair cystadleuaeth eleni yn dal yn bosibl.

Wedi iddyn nhw gael eu gwahodd i chwarae yng Nghwpan Irn Bru Yr Alban y tymor yma (gyda'r Bala a dau dîm o Uwch Gynghrair Gogledd Iwerddon, Crusaders a Linfield yn gwmni), y Seintiau yw'r unig dîm o'r tu allan i'r Alban fydd yn cystadlu yn y rowndiau cynderfynol.

Paisley fydd y lleoliad ar gyfer eu gêm gynderfynol, wrth iddyn nhw herio'r tîm o Bencampwriaeth Yr Alban, St Mirren, ddydd Sul, 19 Chwefror, yn fyw ar Sgorio ar S4C. Bydd cyn chwaraewr canol cae Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Hibernian a Falkirk, Owain Tudur Jones, yn rhan o dîm Sgorio ar gyfer y gêm.

Meddai Owain, a enillodd saith gap dros Gymru yn ystod ei yrfa, "Mae'r Seintiau Newydd yn sefyll pen ac ysgwyddau yn uwch na phawb yn Uwch Gynghrair Cymru. Mae'r bwlch wedi mynd yn enfawr y tymor yma ac mae'n rhaid i ni werthfawrogi'r rhediad maen nhw wedi ei gael; mae'n rhywbeth hanesyddol. Ond petai hynny'n digwydd bob tymor, fe allai pethau fynd yn ddiflas.

"Nid Cymru yw'r unig wlad lle mae hyn yn digwydd. Mae union yr un peth yn digwydd yn Yr Alban efo Celtic, ac maen nhw 'di ennill pum cynghrair yn olynol. Mae'r Seintiau fel fersiwn Cymru o Celtic, ac maen nhw wedi bod felly ers amser."

Y trip i Paisley fydd trydydd trip y Seintiau i'r Alban eleni, wedi iddyn nhw fwynhau buddugoliaeth gofiadwy yn y bedwaredd rownd dros y tîm ar frig Adran Dau, Forfar Athletic, o 3 gôl i 1, ac yna yn trechu'r tîm sy'n arwain Adran Un, Livingston, 3-0 ,yn rownd yr wyth olaf.

Queen of the South neu Dundee United fydd yn wynebu enillydd gêm y Seintiau yn y rownd derfynol ym mis Mawrth.

"Maen nhw wedi profi wrth guro Livingston eu bod nhw'n gyfforddus yn erbyn timau o'r safon yma," ychwanega Owain. "Dwi'n meddwl erbyn ran, mae'n rhaid i glybiau'r Alban barchu'r Seintiau Newydd. Does dim os nac oni bai, mae gan y Seintiau'r gallu i guro St Mirren, ac ennill y gystadleuaeth."
